GUN-TOTING BICYCLIST APPREHENDEDAt about 12:44am, April 9, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) observed a male riding a bicycle in the area of Dean and Howard Streets. Upon seeing the officers, the suspect appeared to be startled and then lost control of his bike. As the suspect attempted to regain control of the bike, officers noticed that the suspect immediately grabbed at an object in his waist area. Through prior training, experience and observation of armed persons, officers believed the suspect in this case might be carrying a weapon. When officers approached the suspect, the suspect, still clutching his waist, fled on his bicycle. A description of the suspect (a black male wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, riding a red bicycle) was then broadcast over the police radio. Officers soon observed a male fitting that description traveling on Brookford towards Howard Avenue. After performing a pat frisk of the suspect, officers recovered a firearm from the suspect’s waist area. Officers then arrested a 16 year-old male from Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
