ONE LESS GUNAt about 5:49pm, on Sunday, May 27, 2007, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force were on patrol in the area of Columbus Avenue & Washington Street when officers observed a large group standing in front of a convenient store. When officers approached the group, one of the individuals began to quickly walk away. As the individual was walking, officers observed the individual clutching at his waist area as if he were carrying or attempting to conceal a firearm. The individual then entered a motor vehicle that was parked illegally in a No Stop/No Stand zone. Officers then asked the individual to exit the motor vehicle. As suspect was exiting the car, the suspect struck one of the officers in an attempt to flee. As officers were searching the suspect, officers recovered a black firearm from the suspect’s waist area. Officers also recovered a knife. Officers then arrested a 16 year-old black male from Roxbury and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm & Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Assault & Battery on a Police Officer. WRONG ANSWER … WRONG AGE At about 12:43am, on Sunday, May 27, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) observed an individual carrying a large bottle of what appeared to be gin on Calumet Street. Officers also noted that the bottle was half empty. Upon seeing the officers, the suspect then placed the bottle on a nearby stairway. Officers then stopped the suspect and asked him his age. To which, the suspect replied, “I’m 19.” Officers then arrested Andrew Thompson, 19, of Cambridge, and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of Alcohol. MAN WITH A KNIFE ARRESTED IN ROXBURY At about 2:23am, on Monday, May 28, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person with a knife at 144 Dudley Street. According to the victim, he asked the suspect to let him into the common area of the apartment complex at the above address. When the victim made the request, the suspect allegedly refused and then pulled out a knife. Victim then states that the suspect began chasing him around a telephone poll. Victim described the suspect as a 5’11” black male, weighing about 195 pounds, wearing a red shirt and blue jeans. Officers then located an individual matching the description provided by the victim. While on scene, witnesses also positively identified the suspect as the man with the knife. Officers arrested Lynneric Powell, 51, of Mattapan, and charged him with Assault By Means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife). Officers also recovered a knife from the suspect.
