Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley today announced the arrest of a suspect in the death of Michael Hansbury, 41, of Mattapan this summer.Boston Police officers assigned to the Fugitive and Apprehension Team today arrested a 15 year-old male from Mattapan in connection with Hansbury’s death. The juvenile, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was identified during the course of an extensive and ongoing Grand Jury investigation. He was 14 at the time Hansbury suffered his fatal injury. As a result of the ongoing probe by Suffolk prosecutors and Boston Police Homicide detectives, investigators applied for and were granted an arrest warrant on Nov. 6 charging the juvenile with the crime of manslaughter. At about 11:23pm, on Tuesday, June 5, 2007, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan, Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a person down in the area of Monson Street in Dorchester. On arrival, they observed an unconscious white male, later identified as Hansbury, lying on the ground in front of 7 Monson St. Officers further observed the victim to be bleeding from the mouth. Officers spoke with witnesses who stated that they observed an individual step up to the victim and assault him. Witnesses further stated the victim subsequently fell to the ground, hitting his head on the sidewalk. The victim was transported to the Boston Medical Center, where he was treated for life-threatening injuries before finally succumbing to them on June 13. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Hansbury’s death a homicide after an autopsy. State forensic pathologists found that he died of complications of a brain injury from blunt head trauma. The teen will be arraigned this afternoon in the Juvenile Session of Dorchester District Court.
