In the early morning hours of May 25, 1962, Boston Police Officer John G. Gallagher was shot and killed by Charles Tracy in the basement of the Shawmut Bank in Kenmore Square, Boston. Tracy was hiding in the bank, prepared to shoot whoever came through the door. That early Friday morning, it was Officer Gallagher. Officer Gallagher was shot and killed in a gun-battle with Tracy. On this anniversary of his death, we remember Officer Gallagher's sacrifice, and all other Boston Police officers who gave their lives to protect their fellow citizens.
