UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM LANDS TWO IN POLICE CUSTODYAt about 4:45am, on Sunday, August 17, 2008, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) observed a motor vehicle, traveling in the area of Talbot Avenue, pull into the Boys & Girls Club parking lot. Since the club was closed, officers pulled behind the motor vehicle to see if everything was okay. While approaching the motor vehicle, officers observed one of the occupants of the car moving in such a way as to suggest he was attempting to hide something. Seeing this, officers instructed the operator of the car to put the car in park and turn off the engine. Officers were forced to repeat the instructions several times before the operator of the car finally complied. When the occupants of the motor vehicle were in the process of exiting the motor vehicle, officers observed a silver-colored firearm on the floor of the front passenger side of the car. Officers quickly seized and secured the firearm. When officers asked the occupants of the motor vehicle to make known the owner of the firearm, both occupants refused comment. As a result, offices arrested Lloyd Powell, 18, of Dorchester and Daryl Brown, 17, of Dorchester and charged both with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm & Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way and Trespassing. OVER THE LIMIT – UNDER ARREST IN MATTAPAN At about 6:30am, on Sunday, August 17, 2008, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a motor vehicle accident in the area of 38 Evelyn Street. On arrival, officers observed a brown motor vehicle (a Ford Crown Victoria) facing the wrong way on a one-way street with two of its wheels resting on the hood of a parked car. While speaking to the operator of the motor vehicle, officers noted that the operator appeared to be under the influence of alcohol due to glassy eyes, slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. At this point, officers administered a field sobriety test. Upon failing the exam, the suspect was placed under arrest. Officers arrested Zachary Guinney, 19, of Brookline and charged him with Operating Under the Influence.
