BOSTON POLICE BICYCLE UNIT ARRESTS ONE FOR STEALING A PHONEAt about 813pm, on Saturday, December 27, 2008, officer assigned to the Boston Police Citywide Bicycle Unit were on patrol in the area of 330 Newbury Street when they observed one male chasing another. When officers ordered the individuals stop, the individual doing the chasing pointed to the man in front of him and stated, ”That guy stole my phone.” Officers quickly joined the chase and, in short time, were able to apprehend the suspect. Upon apprehending the suspect, officers were also able to recover the stolen cell phone (iPhone). Officers arrested Atif Ray, 28, of Cambridge and charged him with Larceny from a Person (Over $250.00). SHIRTLESS SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR PUNCHING OUT CAR WINDOWS IN BRIGHTON At about 12:50am, on Friday, December 26, 2008, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) responded to a radio call for a person punching car windows in the area of Allston Street and Brighton Ave. On arrival, officers located and observed a white male, not wearing a shirt, punching a car window in front of 14 Allston Street. When the suspect saw the officers approaching, the suspect began to verbally abuse, berate and disrespect the officers. When officers attempted to handcuff the suspect, the suspect pulled away and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested Santos Pava, 18, of Brighton and charged him with the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property. GRAFFITI VANDAL ARRESTED IN HYDE PARK At about 5:20pm, on Friday, December 26, 2008, officers from Area E-18 (Hyde Park) were on patrol in the area of Cleary Square when they observed an individual defacing property with an ink marker. Officers quickly stopped their cruiser and approached the suspect in order to further investigate his activity. Upon seeing the approaching officers, the suspect fled on foot. In short time, officers were able to re-locate and apprehend the suspect. A search of the suspect enabled officers to seize a blue marker. The ink in the marker matched the ink used by the suspect to deface the property. Moreover, officers discovered a handwritten note in the suspect’s pocket. The words on the note matched the words written on the property. Officers arrested Evans Ampofo, 27, of Boston and charged him with Graffiti Vandalism.
