Police Investigate House Fire at 46 June Street On Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at approximately 3:02pm, officers assigned to Area E-5 (West Roxbury), responded to 46 June Street for a report of a house fire possibly involving two young children. Officers arrived on-scene, along with personnel from the Boston Fire Department & Boston EMS, and observed large flames and smoke coming from the roof of the structure. Officers spoke to a neighbor who stated that a family of four (a mother and three young children) lives at the location. The witness further stated that, at the time of the fire, two of the children were in school. However, the witness also stated that she observed two kids, the youngest child (a boy, age 6) and his cousin (a girl, age 8), exit the home after the fire started. Several other witnesses corroborated the information. Officers learned that the two children could be found at a nearby relative’s house. Upon proceeding to the home, officers located the two young children. Upon speaking to the children, the little boy admitted to officers that he had been playing with matches. Boston EMS was called to the house. Once on scene, EMS transported both children to the Children’s Hospital where, after an evaluation, they were released. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Officers filed a report through Department of Social Services in regards to the children possibly being left home alone. Area E-5 (West Roxbury) detectives are investigating the case and looking into the possibility of filing charges.
