Officers Seize Loaded Firearm During Motor Vehicle StopOn Sunday, May 3, 2009, at approximately 12:54pm, Officers assigned to Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain), were traveling on Columbus Avenue when they observed a Brown Chevy Blazer pass through a red light on Columbus Avenue @ Dimock Street. Officers stopped the vehicle in the area of Heath Street. Officers approached the vehicle and observed a black male and black female within. The operator supplied a suspended Virginia drivers’ license to the officer. The operator was instructed to step from the vehicle and he was placed into custody on the charge of operating a motor vehicle after license suspension. Prior to the vehicle being towed, a search was conducted. A loaded .45 caliber firearm was located in the center console between the two seats. As a result of this finding, the passenger was also placed into custody. Officers arrested Leon Mclendon, 31, of Virginia Beach, on the charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Also arrested, Constance Jiles, 38, of Boston, on the charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and a default warrant out of Quincy District Court.
