At about 10:20pm, on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) and members of the Youth Violence Strike Force responded to a call for shots fired in the area of 15 Wilcock Street. The call for shots fired was generated by the Shot Spotter activation system. On arrival, officers spoke to witnesses who stated that they believed the shots were fired from a black mini-van. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the black motor vehicle over all channels of the police radio. In short time, officers were able to locate a parked motor vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s black mini-van. Once on scene, officers felt the hood of the van and, upon touching it, noted that the engine was still warm. While inspecting the mini-van, officers observed and located several shell casings in and around the motor vehicle. While processing the scene, officers observed a suspicious-looking motor vehicle, carrying four occupants, quickly leave the area. Prior to driving off, officers observed the motor vehicle back into a parked car. Fearing that the occupants of the car may have been involved with the shots fired incident, officers made the decision to pursue the motor vehicle. Once behind the car, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. With the motor vehicle stopped, officers instructed all four occupants to exit the car. When asked to produce his license and registration, the operator of the motor vehicle stated, “What’s up? What’s wrong? I just hit that car.” A frisk of the occupants produced no weapons. While looking through the car, officers discovered a set of keys. Officers returned to the scene where the mini-van was located to see if the keys belonged to the mini-van. Once there, officers pressed the button activating the car’s remote alarm. Upon pressing the button, the motor vehicle’s alarm system chirped on. A check of the mini-van’s registration showed that one of the suspects shared the same address as the one the car was registered to. Officers arrested Reade Armstrong, 19, Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Officers also arrested Abiona Sharpe, 19, Revere on an outstanding warrant out of Chelsea District Court.
