YOUTH VIOLENCE STRIKE FORCE ARRESTS TWO FOR THE UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
At about 5:55pm, on Thursday, May 14, 2009, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force observed an individual walking and carrying himself in such a way as to suggest he was in the possession of a firearm. Specifically, officers observed the suspect repeatedly clutching at an object in his waist area. Officers then observed the individual enter a motor vehicle. Fearing that the individual may have been armed, officers decided to pursue the motor vehicle. While following behind the car, officers observed the motor vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. As a result of the infraction, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in an effort to stop the motor vehicle. However, instead of stopping, the motor vehicle ignored the officer’s efforts to stop the motor vehicle. While following the car, officers observed the suspect’s car come into contact with a car stopped at a red light. At this point, the operator of the car exited the car in an effort to flee the scene. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the suspect.
Officers arrested Tyrone Hicks, 32, of Boston and charged him with Operating without Being Licensed, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way and Resisting Arrest.
In the meantime, suspect #2, the passenger in the vehicle remained inside the car. Once outside the car, the passenger was taken into police custody. Officers arrested Ira Grayson, 23, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way and Resisting Arrest.
A search of the car enabled officers to locate and take possession of a loaded firearm which was found on the floor of the front passenger seat side of the car.
