BOSTON POLICE K-9 “LIENO” RECOVERS FIREARM AFTER SHOOTING INCIDENT NEAR DORCHESTER SCHOOLYARDCommunity Members Assist To Identify Suspects On June 10, 2009 at approximately 1:19pm, officers responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of 71 Pleasant St. in Dorchester near a local school. On arrival, officers searched the area for the suspects described to be involved in the incident. The first suspect was described as black male wearing black t-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, 5'8 in height. The second suspect was described as a black male wearing long sleeve gray hoodie, dark pants, 5'8 in height and about 150 pounds. Both suspects were described as 15 to 17 years old. Officers stopped two males matching the description in front of 77 Pleasant St. The males were identified as Michael Lopes, 17, of Dorchester and Reggie Gomes, 17, of Dorchester. Officers received information from witnesses who positively identified Michael Lopes as the suspect who had a silver handgun in his front waistband when he ran into the school yard then ran down Pleasant St. Witnesses also identified Reggie Gomes as in the company of Michael Lopes when he ran from the school yard. Immediately after the incident, officers began searching the area for any weapons. Officers received information that the suspects ran between two houses in the area of 75 Pleasant St. At that time, Boston Police K-9 "Lieno" and his partner, Officer Shawn O’Neil, recovered a silver revolver underneath the porch of 79 Pleasant St. The weapon was recovered, secured and photographed. In addition, other ballistic evidence was recovered in the area and is being processed. The students of Edward Everett School were out on recess during the incident and were immediately taken back into the school by the staff. While school was in safe mode, officers and school staff checked on the well-being of all students. The staff reported to officers that all students were determined to be fine except for a few students who were shaken up due to the incident. Officers determined the area to be safe and secure and students were dismissed in a normal routine. Michael Lopes was placed under arrest and transported to C-11 to be charged with unlawful possession of firearm and DYS warrant for violation of probation. Reggie Gomes was placed under arrest on a DYS warrant for violation of probation and transported to C-11.
