Drug Unit Recovers Gun and Drugs
Yesterday evening around 7PM, members of the District B-2 Drug Control Unit arrested suspect, Christian Lopes, 20 of Charlestown and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, and Receiving Stolen Property Over $250. Suspect, Scarlett L. Calderon, 21, of Charlestown was also arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone.
This arrest resulted relative to an ongoing drug involving armed drug dealing involved in the Bunker Hill Housing Development. Officers initiated an investigation around 5PM and shortly before 7PM observed a motor vehicle traveling through the Bunker Hill Housing Development occupied by two males. Officers, having prior knowledge that the car that they had observed is often frequented by individuals involved in drugs, followed the car while requesting for assistance.
The car was followed through several streets and eventually pulled into a shopping plaza on Austin St. and parked. Officers pulled in and parked near the suspect motor vehicle at which time the driver looked over at the plain clothes officers in their unmarked cruiser and said, “Hi police!” as his front passenger exited the car. As the front passenger stepped out of the car, officers noticed that he was grabbing his waist. The front passenger immediately took off running after he got out of the car. Officers started to pursue this suspect, and as they did so, suspect Calderon exited the car and officers abandoned the pursuit of this initial front passenger as there were still two occupants of the car.
Other units arrived on scene and pursued the fleeing suspect unsuccessfully. The two remaining suspects were removed from the car, and prior to search, suspect Calderon admitted to officers that she had a gun and a knife on her person. Officers recovered a loaded handgun from her along 15 plastic bags of marijuana. Further investigation of the suspect motor vehicle yielded a stolen bullet resistant vest. Officers were able to speak to both to suspects and as a result of information attained during the investigation charged both suspects with the above noted charges.
Call by Responsible Citizen Results in Gun and Drug Arrest
This morning around 2:22AM, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to 45 Dwight St. to investigate a call for a described male with a gun.
On arrival, officers immediately observed a male matching the description of the suspect standing outside. As officers approached the suspect, a witness yelled to officers, “He has a gun, I saw it!” Officers detained the suspect and conducted a pat frisk of the suspect but did not find a gun on his person. Officers did however find a holster on his person much like one that would be used to carry a gun.
Officers next went to enter the building to speak to the caller when they observed the suspect mumbling and his mouth moving in an unnatural manner. Officers then examined the suspect’s mouth and were able to recover several pieces of crack cocaine he had secreted in his mouth a brief struggle. After officers placed the suspect under arrest, they looked around to see if the suspect had discarded any other drugs. While looking for other discarded drugs, officers located a firearm under the front on the front passenger side tire of a nearby parked car. While the officers were recovering the handgun, officers that were speaking to witnesses learned that the suspect had been seen hiding the gun under the front passenger tire. A canine confirmed the location of the gun along with a thermal imager.
The suspect, Mohammed Abdullahi, 18, of South Boston was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Class B, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, and Receiving Stolen Property after the gun was discovered to be reported stolen. The suspect was found to be in possession of additional drugs during the booking process.
