Yesterday evening around 5:00PM, officers from District B-2 (Mattapan and Roxbury) wee on patrol in the area of Ritchie and Marcella Streets when they randomly queried a motor vehicle in front of their cruiser.
The query of the vehicle revealed that the car had been reported stolen from the intersection of Commonwealth Ave. and Beacon Street. Officers got behind the vehicle and broadcast the information they had so that other units could help stop the car without a pursuit. Officers followed the car to Elmore Street where the operator abruptly stopped, exited the car and attempted to walk away from officers. The operator was successfully stopped and placed in custody along with the passenger. When officers informed the suspect that the car was stolen, he exclaimed, “I know I stole it, it’s not mine!” The suspect then went on to tell officers that he was in possession of a couple bags of marijuana. The passenger was removed from the car and he also admitted to having some marijuana on him. Further search of the operator revealed him to be in possession three small bags of heroin. The operator admitted officers that his passenger did not know the car was stolen.
The operator, Kenneth Reed, 34, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle after Suspension, Possession of Class A substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute.
