STEALING FROM THE ELDERLY LANDS ONE IN JAIL

At about 5:46pm, on Thursday, May 27, 2010, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a call for an elderly woman in need of help in the area of Shawmut and West Newton Streets.  On arrival, officers spoke to a family member who stated that a woman had knocked on his mother’s door the day before and stole undisclosed amount of money from his elderly mother.  According to the family member, the suspect knocked on his mother’s door and asked the mother if she could borrow money. According to the victim, the suspect told her that they were related. Officers spoke to the suspect who stated that she never told the victim that they were related but she did tell the victim that they shared the same name.  According to the victim, she gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money because the suspect stated she would pay the money back. However, when the suspect returned to re-pay the victim, the victim says the suspect told her she needed additional monies before she could withdraw money from her ATM.  When the suspect saw that the victim was not alone, she attempted to flee the area but was later located and detained by police.

Officers arrested Monique Miller, 38, of Boston and charged her with Larceny from a Person Over Age 65 and Larceny by Scheme.
