Incident Not Considered Random, Fueled by Personal Dispute

On August 30, 2010 at about 9:27pm, officers responded to a radio call for a person shot at 22 Lyndhurst St. On arrival, officers observed a black male inside the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers spoke to witnesses in the home who reported to hear several gunshots. A relative reported that after hearing the gunshots she located the 43 year old male victim in the living room suffering from his injuries.

A patrol officer along with the Codman Square Safe Street Team responded and helped to clear the apartment and secure the scene. Boston EMS responded and transported the victim to the Boston Medical Center where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Detectives who responded to the scene observed the victim suffering from several apparent gun shot wounds. Detectives conducted several interviews which developed information leading to a suspect. The information developed indicates that the incident is not random and the suspect and victim were known to one another.

As a result of the information developed, detectives went to the home of 27 year-old Kamal Oliver of Dorchester.  Oliver was placed under arrest and charged with assault and battery with dangerous weapon gun and assault with intent to murder. The apartment was secured by the Boston Police department pending a search warrant.

Oliver is expected to be arraigned this morning in Dorchester District Court.
