At about 1:50am, on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for an altercation in the area of Park and Tremont Streets. On arrival, officers were approached by an individual, a cab driver, who stated that he was stopped behind a black pick-up truck at a red light and when the light turned green, the truck didn’t move so he honked his horn. At this point, the cabbie says the operator of the black truck, now clearly agitated and aggravated, exited his vehicle and approached the cab. Upon reaching the cab, the cabbie says the suspect began kicking and punching his car. According to the cabbie, the suspect shattered his front passenger window. Officers observed shattered glass and boot marks on the side of the cab. After damaging the cab, the cabbie says the suspect got back in his truck and drove off. Officers located the suspect vehicle parked in the area of Park & Tremont Streets. Officers spoke to a 2nd individual who confirmed the cabbie’s story.
Officers approached the car to further investigate the incident. When officers asked the operator about the incident, the suspect stated that he didn't do anything to the cab. After the suspect was positively identified by the cabbie, officers took the suspect into custody.
Officers arrested Bill Wentworth, 28, of Abington and charged him with the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property.
