ROLLING THROUGH A STOP SIGN LANDS ONE CAB DRIVER BEHIND BARS

At about 4:48pm, on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, officers from Area A-7 (East Boston) were on patrol in the area of Chelsea Street and Neptune Road when they observed a taxi cab fail to stop for a stop sign. As a result, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in an effort to stop the car. However, when officers attempted to approach the car, the suspect began engaging in a game of what looked to be cat and mouse. When the officers pulled behind the cab, the cab would stop and then move up by about 20 feet. The operator of the cab did this three separate times before finally coming to a complete stop. When asked to provide his license and registration, the operator refused to obey the officer’s legal instructions. As the suspect verbally disparaged and disrespected the officer, the officers asked him again to produce his license and registration. When he refused again, the suspect was placed under arrest. Officers arrested John Giannino, 52, of Malden and charged him with Refusing to Submit to a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.
