At about 11:21pm, on Saturday, April 23, 2001, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of Roxbury Crossing. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that she was walking with friends when three individuals approached, showed a firearm and took her cell phone. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspects over the police radio. In short time, officers were able locate two individuals matching the description of the suspects. While officers were questioning the suspects, the victim was brought to the scene. Upon seeing one of the suspects, the victim was able to positively identify one of the suspects as the individual who took her cell phone. A search of the suspect, as well as, the area for a firearm proved unsuccessful. Officers arrested Basil Oates, 23, of Boston and charged him with Armed Robbery.
