At about 12:10am, on Thursday, June 16, 2011, officers, assigned to monitor and observe crowds celebrating the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup victory, a 4-nothing win over the Vancouver Canucks, were in the area of Brookline Ave and Park Drive when they observed a motor vehicle driving at a high rate of speed towards a crosswalk with pedestrians. Seeing this, officers stepped in front of the car. At the last moment, the car slammed on its breaks, stopping within two feet of the crosswalk. When officers approached the car, the operator looked at the officers and yelled, “What!?! I am sorry.” Standing next to the car, officers were able to detect an odor of alcohol emanating from the operator. When asked if he had been drinking, the operator stated, “I had a few beers.” As such, the operator of vehicle was asked to exit the motor vehicle and a field sobriety test was administered. After failing the field sobriety test, the operator was placed under arrest. Officers arrested Brandon Shiels, 23, of Franklin and charged him with Operating Under the Influence.
