Motor Vehicle Collision into Building Lands Suspect under Arrest for OUI, in Dorchester

At about 7:51pm on Friday, October 11, 2013, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a vandalism report at 6 Hancock Street (Cantonese Restaurant), Dorchester. 

On arrival, officers observed heavy damage to the Cantonese Restaurant. Officers spoke with the owner who stated that a car backed into his restaurant. Officers located a male still on scene, who stated through an interpreter, he was the operator of the motor vehicle (four door sedan), that collided with the building.  He refused medical attention.   The male operator further explained “he was trying to Parallel Park and he hit the gas and backed into the store”. Officers observed the operator to have glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol and was unsteadiness on his feet.  Officer conducted a Field Sobriety Test and Henrique Alberto Lopes, 54, of Dorchester was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Alcohol.

Lopes is expected to appear in Dorchester District Court on Monday.  Inspectional Service was notified to evaluate the building structure.
