At about 12:35am on Sunday, November 17, 2013 officers from District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a person stabbed in the area of 191 Milk Street (Coogan’s Bar).
Upon arrival officers were directed to the male victim, in his twenties, who was being attended to by bar staff on scene. The victim, suffering from stab wounds, was transported to Mass General Hospital with serious injuries.
Officers were informed that the suspect fled in a METRO CAB, in the direction of Broad St and Surface Road.
Officers radioed police dispatcher with the description of the taxi and the suspect. A second male victim, on scene, who stated that the suspect and an unidentified male tried to gain access to Coogan's Bar at which point victim #1 told the suspects they had to wait in line. Victim #2 further stated that the suspect went to the back of the line and a short time after returned and attempted to gain access by cutting the line. Victim #2 reported the suspect became enraged after being denied access to the bar and struck victim #2 in the left side of his face with his fist multiple times. Victim #2 further stated the suspect then pulled out a knife and lunged towards victim #1 stabbing him in the torso.
A short time later, police located the Metro Cab at 37 Chelsea Street in Charlestown with a male matching the suspect’s description sitting in the back seat. Officers observed a knife on the floor by his feet, which was seized as evidence.
Peter J. Damelio, 38 of Newton was positively identified, arrested and charged with Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon (Knife).
He is expected to appear in Boston Municipal Court on Monday.
