At about 1:45 AM, Friday, December 13, 2013, while driving an unmarked police vehicle in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Morton Street (Area B3), a Boston Police detective heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Havelock Street.

While travelling on Morton Street the detective observed a gray Toyota Rav4 cross Morton Street from Baird Street and continue up Courtland Road at a high rate of speed. The detective followed vehicle onto Harvard Street and requested assistance in stopping the vehicle. The suspect vehicle continued on Harvard Street towards Cummins Highway. The vehicle then crossed Cummins Highway onto Wood Avenue and pulled into a driveway. The detective exited his vehicle as assisting units were arriving on-scene. The passenger side door of the suspect vehicle opened, at which time the detective identified himself as a Boston Police officer and ordered the passenger to remain in the vehicle.  The passenger ignored the detective’s command and exited the vehicle, running towards the rear of the driveway with an unknown object in his right hand. The detective observed the passenger run next to the garage in the rear of the yard and out of sight. The detective heard an object hit the ground and observed the passenger walking back towards him with his hand inside his pocket. The detective ordered the passenger to show his hands and to get on the ground. The passenger continued to advance towards the detective before removing a cellular phone from his pocket. The detective continued to yell at the passenger to get on the ground before he ultimately complied. As the detective attempted to place the passenger in restraints, the passenger put up a violent struggle.  Other officers assisted in taking the passenger into custody.

The driver of the vehicle also fled, jumping a fence and running toward Lewiston Street.  He was pursued by other officers and then attempted to hide under at parked motor vehicle.  Officers were able to take the driver into custody without incident.

Officers then conducted a search of the immediate area and located one firearm in a yard on Lewiston Street which abuts the rear of the driveway the suspects vehicle pulled into on Wood Avenue. A second firearm was found on the side of the house that the suspect vehicle pulled into on Wood Avenue.
