Right Place at the Right Time: Boston Police Arrest Pair After Shooting in Dorchester

At about 12:42am, on Saturday, December 7, 2013, an officer from the Youth Violence Strike Force (Gang Unit) on-sited shots fired while on patrol in the area of Ridgewood Street in Dorchester.

While officer was on patrol, he observed two male suspects run out from the area of 29 Ridgewood Street carrying firearms.  Officers observed the two suspects brandishing firearms and fleeing in the direction of occupants in a motor vehicle leaving a parking spot. Officers observed both suspects discharged their firearms numerous times at the motor vehicle occupants. The victims of the motor vehicle fled towards Topliff Street.

Officers notified operations for assistance.  Officers observed the suspects attempt to flee the area.  A brief foot chased ensued and both suspects were apprehended in the area of Westville Street at Geneva Avenue and Tonwanda Street. Officers recovered a handgun during the pursuit. 

The male victim self applied to Boston Medical Center with non- life threatening injuries. 

Police arrested,  Tyshawn Cummings, 18, of Dorchester and Donnelle Joyner, 18, of Dorchester, both are charged with Assault and Battery of Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Discharging Gun 500' of A Dwelling.  Both suspects are expected to be arraigned at Dorchester District Court on Monday, December 9, 2013.
