At about 9:10pm, on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, Boston Police Officers and Mass State Police Troopers officers on patrol in South Boston were directed to a white male who – according to witnesses - was shooting a gun in the area of E. 8th and Old Harbor Streets. On arrival, officers announced their presence and began issuing verbal commands instructing the suspect to put down his weapon. However, instead of complying with the officer’s lawful commands, the suspect pointed his weapon in the direction of the officers. At this point, officers (from both Boston and the State Police) discharged their firearms and struck the suspect. The suspect, a male in his fifties, was transported to the Boston Medical Center where he’s being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect has been identified as Kenneth Connolly, 53, of South Boston.
A search of the immediate area enabled officers to recover two weapons.
The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding incident.
