At about 12:00PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a person shot in the area of 243 Charles Street (Mass Eye and Ear Hospital). The officers discovered two victims on arrival, a deputy sheriff and a male prisoner.
While in the custody of two Middlesex County Deputy Sheriffs, Raymond Wallace, 36, of Marblehead, attempted to take possession of a service weapon belonging to one of the deputies. That deputy sustained a nonfatal gunshot injury, while the other is believed to have then discharged his own weapon, striking Wallace.
Wallace remains hospitalized. He faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Assault and Battery on a Public Employee, and Escape.
The Boston Police Department and Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office are continuing to investigate the facts and circumstances of this case.
