Parking at a Fire Hydrant Illegally Lands Three Behind Bars on Drug and Firearm Charges

At about, 10:35pm, on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest at 60 Kendall Street, South End.

While patrolling in the area of Lenox Street and Kendall Street, officers observed a group standing near an illegal parked motor vehicle at a fire hydrant at 60 Kendall Street. Officers approached the motor vehicle, which was running with the keys in the ignition and occupied by the operator and a passenger.

Further investigation revealed the driver was operating after suspension. The operator was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension. As officers removed the operator from the vehicle, they observed the passenger making several quick movements toward the front compartment of the vehicle.

Officer observed the suspect quickly sit upright in the seat with his hands clenched to his chest. At this time officers removed the suspect from the passenger seat of the vehicle and performed a pat frisk for weapons. Officers observed the suspect to be sweating profusely as he exited the vehicle.

Officers then began an inventory search of the vehicle and observed under the front passenger seat, the silver barrel of what appeared to be a revolver pointing out from under the seat.

All suspects were searched for any further weapons.  A third suspect had a small hard object in his right change pocket. Knowing that a firearm was recovered and fearing that the suspect may be in possession of ammunition, officers removed the object from the suspect's pocket. The object was a small plastic baggie of heroin.

The firearm recovered was a Sturm Ruger Police Service Fix 38 caliber Special loaded with 4 rounds of 38 caliber special ammunition. During the inventory search, officers recovered small plastic bag of marijuana in the driver's side door panel.
