Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Shooting Out the Rear Window of His Own Car Lands One Wayward Shooting Suspect in Police Custody

At about 5:05pm, on Sunday, January 12, 2014, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a call for shots fired in the area of Ridgewood & Draper Streets. On arrival, officers spoke to a victim who confessed that he met up with the suspect with the intention of buying marijuana but the purchase never materialized. According to the victim, he was sitting in the suspect’s car when the suspect became angry and pulled out a firearm. The victim further states that the suspect discharged his firearm (possibly inadvertently) inside the car and, in doing so, shot out the rear window of his vehicle. The victim also stated that the suspect stole his iPhone before kicking him out of his car and driving away. A search of the area enabled officers to locate a car matching the description of the suspect’s car in the area of the 1500 block of Blue Hill Ave. While approaching the vehicle, officers observed an individual cleaning up glass generated from the shattered rear window. Upon approaching the car, officers observed, sitting on the front seat of the vehicle in plain view, a black-colored pellet gun and the victim’s iPhone.

Officers arrested Ed Clarke, 20, of Boston and charged him with Armed Robbery and Assault by Means Dangerous Weapon (pellet gun).
