Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Quick Response to the Scene of an Armed Robbery Enables BPD Officers to Arrest 2 Armed Robbers & Recover Two Firearms

 

At about 6:11pm, on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a call for an armed robbery at 394 Warren Street (Warren Food Mart).

On arrival, officers received a description of the suspects from the dispatcher and observed the two suspects exciting the store. Officers exited their cruiser and ordered the suspects to stop and the suspects fled on foot down Savin Street. While fleeing the scene, officers observed the suspects throw a cash register drawer to the ground. Officers engaged in a brief foot pursuit with the suspects and observed the suspects enter a motor vehicle and flee the area. Officers immediately broadcast a description of the motor vehicle.

In short time, officers canvassing the area observed the suspect’s motor vehicle in the area of Townsend Street. Officer activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the suspect’s motor vehicle. However, instead of stopping, the suspects continued to drive until they ditched their motor vehicle after hitting a parked car at the intersection of Maple Street and Schuyler Street. The suspects both fled from the motor vehicle but were quickly apprehended by officers on the scene.

As the passenger of the vehicle was attempting to jump over a fence, officers were able to apprehend him. The second suspect, the operator of the car, was apprehended in the area of Maple Street after officers observed the suspect breathing very heavily with his nose running profusely. Officers also observed money protruding from the suspect’s pockets. Officers ordered the suspect to the ground and he refused. After a brief scuffle, officers were able to gain control of the suspect and place him into custody.

Both suspects were identified by witnesses as the armed suspects.

Two firearms were recovered.

James Thornton, 40, of Dorchester was arrested for Armed Robbery and Resisting Arrest while  the operator of the vehicle, Liquarry Jefferson, 33, of Dorchester, was arrested for Armed Robbery, Resisting Arrest, Negligent Operation, Operating After Suspension, Refusal to Submit to a Police Officer and Armed Career Criminal Level 3. Jefferson was also issued a Massachusetts Civil Citation for Possession of Less Than 1 Ounce of Marijuana and a Uniform Citation for Going Wrong Way on a One Way.
