One Less Gun: Officers Arrest Juvenile and Recover Illegal Firearm in Roxbury

At about 8:49 PM on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of Washington Street and Westminster Street in Roxbury.

While on directed patrol in the area of the above location due to recent firearm related incidents, officers observed two unknown males walking toward the police vehicle. As officers continued down the street, one of the males, upon seeing officers, immediately turned and fled, clutching an apparent object in his waistband. Officers, fearing that the male may be armed, gave chase.  During the pursuit, the suspect removed a firearm from his waistband and continued running while brandishing the firearm in his right hand. Officers were able to recover a .22 caliber Smith & Wesson Long Rifle revolver loaded with six rounds of live ammunition along the route in which the suspect fled. The suspect was apprehended and placed under arrest in the area of Washington Street and Westminster Street in Roxbury.

Officers arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile of Roxbury. The juvenile is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way, and Receiving Stolen Property.
