One Less Gun: Boston Police Arrest One Suspect After Two Illegal Firearms are Recovered During a Search Warrant in Dorchester


At about 12:16 PM, on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, members of District B-2(Roxbury) Drug Control Unit executed a search warrant at 20 Magnolia Street, Dorchester.

Officers approached the target residence mentioned above and observed the exterior door as well as the interior door of the targeted apartment propped open. It was at this time officers knocked and announced numerous times on the interior apartment door "Boston Police search warrant". After receiving no answer officers made a peaceful entry into the apartment, while still announcing "Boston Police search warrant". Upon entering and clearing the residence, officers encountered two male occupants who were secured for officer safety until officers could deem the residence safe for themselves, as well as the occupants.

During the execution of the search warrant officers recovered two firearms; a  Bryco Arms Jennings 9mm and a Ruger Redhawk .44 revolver. Officers also recovered seventy-nine rounds of ammunition and at least 3 plastic bags of crack cocaine in a coffee cup.  Officers seized evidentiary items, including personal papers, and clothing of twenty-seven year old, Earl A. Johnson, of Dorchester, as part of their continued investigation.

The suspect, Johnson, was already in police custody during the search, and as a result of the recoveries, he was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Second and Subsequent Offense), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a High Capacity Feeding Device, Armed Career Criminal Level 2 and Possession W/I to Distribute, Class B, Drugs.

Two male occupants were positively identified and allowed to secure the apartment.       

Johnson is expected to appear in Roxbury District Court today.
