At about 11:59 AM on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 32 Erie Street in Dorchester.
While on directed patrol in the area of the above location, due to recent reports of feuding gang members, officers observed a black male in his late teens traveling down Washington Street toward Bowdoin Street on a bicycle. As the individual was made aware of officers’ presence, he immediately began to pedal in the opposite direction. Officers made note of the male’s movements (constantly adjusting an apparent object in his waistband) and eventually drove beside the individual in an effort to engage him in conversation. At this time, the suspect became increasingly nervous, refusing to speak to the officers, and continued to adjust the object in his waistband. The male then rode his bicycle into a parking lot with a “No Trespassing” sign clearly posted. At this time, officers believed the suspect was certainly in possession of a firearm and stopped him in the lot. Officers were able to recover a Hi Point 9MM Luger firearm with obliterated serial numbers loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition located in the suspect’s waistband. The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest.
Officers arrested 18-year-old Dwayne Lewis of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, and Trespassing.
