At about 12:02 PM on Monday, December 22, 2014, officers from District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering in progress at 27 Barlow Street.
While enroute to the call, officers were given the description of three young males, one of which was wearing a hat with a red stripe across it and another wearing a black sweatshirt with an American Flag on the back of it. The caller stated the three males were still inside the building. District officers remembered seeing three males matching the description, near the Green Street MBTA Station approximately 15 minutes prior.
Upon arrival to location, just as officers exited their cruisers they observed three males (described above), fleeing the rear entrance of 27 Barlow Street. Officers commanded the three suspects to stop. But the suspects looked back at officers and began running through the backyard towards Weld Hill Street. Officers pursued the suspects on foot, through numerous backyards, over fences, and onto Woodlawn Street. After the extensive foot chase, officers were able to apprehended one of the males as he attempted to climb a fence. Officers were able to locate the remaining two suspects hiding in a child's playhouse in the rear or 62 Woodlawn Street.
While searching suspect Roshawn Braggs, 20, of Roxbury, officers recovered a bag of rare coins in the suspect's front pocket. There were a total 46 coins, as well as two watches and a gold pin with a Fraternity insignia in the name of the victim, engraved on the rear of the pin. Braggs was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering (Daytime), Destruction of Personal Property, Trespassing, Buying, Receiving, or Concealing Stolen Property. Two male juvenile suspects were also arrested. A 16 year-old of Boston, and a 17 year-old of Roxbury, were both charged with Breaking and Entering (Daytime), Destruction of Personal Property and Trespassing. The 16 year-old received an additional charge of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.
