At about 4:30pm, on Monday, February 10, 2014, while conducting an investigation, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) observed an individual standing on the steps of a residence on Norwell Street making a telephone call on his cell phone. During that time, a white-colored motor vehicle arrived and the suspect gestured to the individuals in the car to drive to the rear of the complex.  At that time, officers observed the suspect press his right hand up against his waist area, duck down and appear to adjust something in his waistband. After doing so, the suspect stood up and began to walk to the rear of 53 Norwell Street where the white motor vehicle was waiting. During that time, officers informed other members of the Drug Control Unit that it appeared a drug transaction was occurring. Officers approached the vehicle and observed the suspect smoking a half burnt marijuana cigarette. Officers removed the suspect from the vehicle and conducted a pat frisk and felt an object in the suspect’s right coat pocket. The officer removed a loaded .38 Special Ruger LCR.

When asked to produce a License to Carry a Firearm, the suspect stated that he did not possess one. The suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile from Boston, was placed under arrest for Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm. Suspect was also issued a civil infraction for possession Class D Marijuana (Less than 1 ounce).

NOTE: The recently seized firearm brings the total number of firearms seized in the City of Boston this year (2014) to 58. The total number of illegal firearms taken off city streets in 2013 was 667.
