Four Fewer Guns: BPD Continues Crackdown on Gun Violence Taking Four Guns Off City Streets

Within a 12 hour period, the Boston Police Department was able to see and seize four illegal firearms. The recently seized firearms bring the total number of firearms seized in the City of Boston this year (2014) to 64. The total number of illegal firearms taken off city streets in 2013 was 667.

The facts and circumstances of the incidents are as follows: 

Incident #1: At about 5:24am, on Sunday, February 16, 2014, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of Moreland Street and Blue Hill Avenue. On arrival, officers were directed to Blue Hill Ave & Brookford Street where officers located an individual matching the description of the person seen with the firearm. Upon seeing the suspect, officers promptly ordered the suspect to the ground and frisked the suspect for weapons. While no weapons were found on the suspect, a search of the immediate area enabled officers to see and seize a black firearm found lodged in the snow.  Officers spoke to several witnesses who stated that they observed the suspect pointing the firearm at passing motorists. 

Officers arrested Carlos Victorian-Richardson, 24, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). 

Incident #2: At about 5:09 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2014, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a domestic altercation in the area of 52 Clearway Street in the Back Bay. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who reported that she and her boyfriend (suspect) had gotten into a verbal argument which escalated into a physical one during which the victim says the suspect threatened her with a firearm. While on scene, a protective sweep of the apartment enabled officers to see and seize three illegal firearms including a loaded revolver (see enclosed photo). In short time, officers were able to locate and apprehend the suspect outside the apartment building.  

Cameron Carswell, 22, of Boston was placed under arrest for Assault and Battery (209A), Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (three counts), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition (two counts) and Possession of a Firearm with Altered Serial Numbers.
