One Less Gun: Officers Recover One Firearm and Arrest One Suspect in Dorchester

At about 12:05 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2014, officers in the Youth Violence Strike Force affected an on-site arrest in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road in District C-11 (Dorchester).

Officers on patrol in the above area observed three males exhibiting suspicious behavior and movements.  Due to the officers' training and experience, the officers believed these individuals may be armed; therefore, officers approached the males and attempted to conduct an inquiry.  For their safety, officers performed a pat frisk, and during the frisk, located a loaded Colt Challenger .22 Automatic Long Rifle handgun, from the waistband of one of the males.  After a brief struggle, officers were able to apprehend this suspect and requested his License to Carry.  When he could not produce one, officers arrested 26-year-old Rashad Berryman of Hyde Park, for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd and Subsequent Offense), Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest.
