At about 8:33 PM on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a robbery report in the area of 31 Kerwin Street.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, whom they observed to have visible injuries about his face and nose. The victim reported he was waiting for the bus at Talbot Avenue and Kerwin Street, when a young male approached him and grabbed his cell phone from his hand. The victim reported he grabbed onto the suspect and began wrestling with him in attempt to retrieve his phone. The victim stated when they both fell to the ground, three other males appeared and began kicking and punching the victim. The primary suspect managed to break free and run away, and the three males followed him. The victim gave a description of the primary suspect and stated he may have torn the suspect’s coat during the altercation. The victim declined any medical attention.
Meanwhile, officers in the area observed two young males, one of whom had a ripped coat and fit the description of the primary suspect, walking in the area of Norfolk and Wentworth Streets. The officers stopped the males and conducted an inquiry. The officers learned from the two young males that the suspect's coat was torn in an altercation near Kerwin Street. Both males were brought back to the scene, and the suspect with the ripped coat, the 16-year-old juvenile of Dorchester, was positively identified as the primary suspect who stole the victim's phone. The juvenile was arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery. The second suspect, 18-year-old Peterson Saintil of Roslindale, was arrested on outstanding warrants.
