At about 6:25 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2014, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force on patrol in District B-3 (Mattapan) affected an on-site arrest in the area of Blue Hill Avenue & Otisfield Street in Dorchester.

While on patrol, officers observed a motor vehicle with a broken tail light.  Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop of this vehicle for the infraction.  Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers observed that the front seat passenger was not wearing a seat belt.  The operator reported she did not have her driver’s license and registration with her, and the vehicle belonged to her friend.  Upon further investigation, officers observed that the operator’s driver’s license was suspended, and the passenger was also unlicensed.  All parties were ordered to exit the vehicle, and the operator was placed under arrest.

Upon searching the motor vehicle due to the lawful arrest, officers observed a loaded silver and pink firearm under the front passenger seat, readily accessible to the passenger.  Officers requested the passenger’s License to Carry, and when he stated he didn't have one, he was placed under arrest.  The operator denied having knowledge of the presence of the firearm. The owner of the vehicle responded to the scene and also denied having any knowledge of the presence of a firearm.

Officers seized the firearm, and 22-year-old Ira Harrison of Roxbury was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Third and Subsequent Offense), and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

The operator of the motor vehicle, 22-year-old Shakira Singleton of Dorchester, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle After Driver’s License Suspended/Revoked.
