Your Piece for Peace: When asked why the Boston Gun Buy Back is important to him, Police Commissioner William Evans talked about February 7, 2014: “When I think of that day, I think about a little 9 year-old boy who lost his life way too soon and, I think to myself, I hope this program will help us prevent a similar tragedy. Janmarcos Pena was just 9 years-old. He should be with us today. He should be going to school and playing with friends. I don’t want to see another mother have to go through what his mother is going through. This program is designed to give people an option. Some have called it controversial. But to me, there’s nothing controversial about doing everything we can to get illegal guns off our streets and hopefully prevent another tragedy.”

The Gun Buy Back program is designed to help make our city a safer place by giving community members an option as it relates to getting guns off of our streets. The slogan for the campaign is 'Your Piece for Peace' and those who turn guns in are eligible to receive a $200.00 Visa® gift card. The program starts today (March 24, 2014) and is operational Monday through Friday between the hours of 12:00pm - 7:00pm at various designated drop-off sites throughout the city.
