At about 2:23 AM, Thursday, March 27, 2014, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a Shot Spotter activation in the area of 178 Bowdoin Street in Dorchester.
While en route to the above location, officers observed a dark colored motor vehicle traveling with its taillights out in the area of Washington Street and Harvard Street. The vehicle was also traveling at an unusually slow speed. While conducting a traffic stop, officers became suspicious as the operator took an extremely long time to provide his license and vehicle registration. As officers waited for the operator to provide the necessary documents, they observed three spent shell casings in plain view resting in the groove of the vehicle‘s trunk. The operator refused to exit the vehicle and in an attempt to remove him, a brief, violent struggle ensued. The suspect was placed under arrest. Officers were able to recover a black firearm which was located under the driver's seat.
Arrested was Steven Braggs, 33, of Roxbury. Braggs is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
