At about 10:50 PM, Monday, March 3, 2014, officers assigned to the Drug Control Unit arrested an individual found carrying an illegal firearm in the area of River Street and Washington Street in Dorchester.
While on conducting an investigation in the area of Lincoln Street, officers observed an individual clutching his waist while walking hurriedly. As officers continued to watch the suspect and his mannerisms, he became more and more nervous, constantly looking around in every direction and continuously grabbing at his waist. Upon entering a motor vehicle, officers observed the individual remove an item from his waist and place it under the front seat of the motor vehicle and drive off. Officers immediately believed the suspect to be in possession of a firearm. Upon initiating a traffic stop, officers attempted to approach the vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, the suspect refused to place the car in park, further creating an unsafe environment for officers. Moreover, the suspect refused to exit the vehicle, causing the car to come to a rest against a department motor vehicle. Upon removing the suspect from the vehicle, officers discovered a silver semi-automatic firearm protruding from under the driver’s seat along with two medium plastic bags containing marijuana. The suspect was placed under arrest.
Arrested was Michael Reid, 34, of Dorchester. Reid is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Operating After Revocation or Suspension.
NOTE: The recently seized firearm brings the total number of firearms seized in the City of Boston this year (2014) to 98. The total number of illegal firearms taken off city streets in 2013 was 667.
