At about 10:29 PM on Friday, April 11, 2014, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of Wainwright & Brent Streets in Dorchester. Officers were informed six shots had been fired and witnesses described two black males, one wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, running from the area.
Officers immediately flooded the area in search of suspects, witnesses, and evidence. An officer in the area of Centre Street and Clementine Park observed two black males, one wearing a red hoodie and the other wearing a gray hoodie, standing in the lobby of an ATM in Shawmut MBTA station. The officer observed that the movements of the individual in the red hoodie appeared unusually rigid and stiff, and the individual in gray acted as if he were using the ATM, but the officer did not observe any monetary transaction.
Due to their close proximity to the crime scene, their unusual behavior, and their clothing descriptions, the officer conducted a stop of these two individuals. A pat-frisk of the suspect in the red hoodie revealed two loaded Hi-Point handguns tucked into the suspect’s waistband. For his safety, the officer took control the weapons and requested the suspect’s License to Carry. The suspect could not produce one, and 20-year-old Deandre Lattin of Dorchester was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of both Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. The officers obtained the information of the second suspect, and he was released. Detectives responded to process the scene.
