One Less Gun: Officers Arrest One and Recover Gun in Roxbury

At about 11:15 AM, Wednesday, April 2, 2014, officers assigned to the City Wide Drug Control Unit executed two search warrants in the area of 242 Warren Street in Roxbury.

On arrival, officers observed the suspect exit his residence. As officers approached the suspect, he began to scan the area, looking for an escape route. When the suspect realized he was surrounded, he became extremely violent, refusing to obey officer’s verbal commands. A brief struggle occurred in which the suspect attempted numerous times to grab an item from his pocket which was later determined to be a folding knife. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect and place him in custody. As a result of the search warrant of the suspect’s residence, officers were able to recover a black semi-automatic firearm, ammunition, numerous loose rocks of crack cocaine and over $1200.00 in US Currency.

Arrested was Jose Martinez, 22, of Roxbury. Martinez is charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon on a Police Officer to Wit - Knife, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Possession W/I to Distribute Class B Drugs.
