One Less Gun: Boston Police Officers Seize Four Guns and Arrest Three in Less than 13 Hour Period

Members of the Boston Police Department School Police Unit, Youth Violence Strike Force, and Special Investigations Unit in conjunction with outside agencies were successful in seizing four illegal firearms from the streets of Boston during three separate incidents in less than 13 hours yesterday. This brings the 2014 year-to-date total number of seized guns in Boston to 190. The total number of seized guns in Boston in 2013 was 667.

The facts and circumstances of the incidents are as follows:

Incident #1: At about 6:00 AM on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, members of the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATFE) executed a federal search warrant in the area of 94 Crawford Street in District B-2 (Roxbury). The search warrant yielded the following evidence:

  • One loaded black .40 caliber Hi Point semi-automatic firearm
  • One plastic bag containing 14 rounds of Remington .38 SPL ammunition
  • Two hundred ninety rounds of Speer .357 ammunition
  • Forty-two rounds of Winchester .40 caliber ammunition

Forty-seven-year old Wayne Davis of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Improper Storage of a Firearm, and being a Level III Armed Career Criminal.

Incident #2: At about 6:05 AM on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, members of the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF), Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATFE) executed a federal search warrant in the area of 135 Hutchings Street in District B-2 (Roxbury). The search warrant yielded the following evidence:

  • One loaded Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver
  • One unloaded New England Firearms .25 caliber revolver
  • One bag containing various rounds of ammunition
  • Over $5,100.00 in U.S. currency
  • Approximately 4.2 grams of crack cocaine
  • Eighteen plastic baggies of a substance believed to be marijuana
  • Various drug paraphernalia

Twenty-two-year-old Anthony Brown of Roxbury was arrested and charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession with Intent to Distribute of Class D (Marijuana), Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B (Crack Cocaine), and two counts of Possession of a Firearm while in Commission of a Felony.

Incident #3: At about 12:45 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, members of the BPD School Police Unit responded to the area of 10 Fenwood Road (Kennedy Health Careers Academy) in District B-2 (Roxbury) for a report of a student in possession of a firearm.

Upon arrival, officers were told that a teacher had been alerted to a student who had brought a firearm onto school property. The teacher and headmaster located the student and his backpack. A silver and black Bruni New Police pistol, as well as thirty-seven blank Walther 8MM ammunition cartridges were discovered inside the student’s backpack.

The 16-year-old juvenile of Cambridge was arrested and charged with Delinquent to wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm on School Property.
