At about 4:42 AM on Saturday, May 10, 2014, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of 61 Saint James Street in Roxbury.
Upon arrival, the caller informed officers that there were three people at the door of his apartment ringing his buzzer and causing a commotion. The caller stated he knew two of the individuals, however, he did not know the third party. The caller reported when he opened the door to ask the group to leave, the unknown individual removed a small silver semi-automatic firearm with a white handle (see photo) from his pants pocket, threatened the caller with the gun and then left the area.
The officers were given a description of the suspect and information that he may be headed to the area of 25 Hemenway Street in the Fenway. Officers broadcast the description to units in District D-4 (South End), and shortly after, officers observed a male fitting the suspect’s description walking in the area of 25 Hemenway Street. Officers observed that the male was walking in such a way consistent with one who may be attempting to conceal a firearm. The officers followed the male for a short period then ordered him to stop, at which point they heard the sound of metal reverberate against a dumpster next to where the male stood.
After further investigation, officers recovered a silver semi-automatic firearm with white masking tape wrapped around a black handle from underneath the dumpster. The suspect reported he did not have a license to carry a firearm, and the officers placed 24-year-old Jewil E. Guerrero of Jamaica Plain under arrest for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, and Threats to Commit a Crime.
