At about 5:44 PM on Monday, May 12, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) affected two arrests and recovered an illegal firearm as a result of a traffic stop in the area of Columbia Road and Hamilton Street in District C-11 (Dorchester).
While on patrol, officers conducted a random check of the registration of a motor vehicle traveling on the public way near the above address. The officers observed from the inquiry that the inspection sticker on the vehicle had expired. When the officers conducted a stop of the vehicle, the operator could not provide the officers with his driver’s license and registration. The officers also noted none of the three passengers were wearing their seat belts. As officers attempted to investigate and confirm the identities of the occupants of the vehicle, a third officer observed the front seat passenger remove a plastic bag containing what appeared to be crack cocaine from his pants pocket and drop it in on the floor in the rear passenger compartment. The officer attempted to remove the front passenger from the vehicle, and a brief struggle ensued. Officers were able to place the suspect in handcuffs then proceeded to have the remaining occupants exit the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that the plastic bag contained 40 individually wrapped “rocks” of a substance believed to be crack cocaine and 6 yellow pills later identified as “Clonazepam.” The investigation also exposed that the operator of the vehicle had a suspended driver’s license, was not an authorized driver on the vehicle’s rental agreement, and had an active outstanding warrant. The operator was placed into custody, and the vehicle was searched prior to being towed. During the search, officers observed the butt-end of a firearm protruding from the opening of a sock in an open leather bag that was on the front passenger seat floor. Officers recovered a loaded black Smith and Wesson 6904 large capacity semi-automatic firearm. No one in the vehicle possessed a License to Carry.
The operator of the motor vehicle, 26-year-old Marlon Compass of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Operating a Motor Vehicle after Suspension, and Use of a Motor Vehicle without Authority.
The front seat passenger of the vehicle, 23-year-old Marcuse Peterson of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Possession of Class B Drugs, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs within 100’ of a Park, Resisting Arrest, and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.
