At about 1:52 PM, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 officers assigned District A-1 (Downtown) in assistance with the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 73 O’Reilly Way in Charlestown.
While on patrol in the area of 240 Medford Street (Charlestown High School) due to the potential threat of violence from an earlier stabbing in the area, officers observed an individual matching the description of one of the individuals involved in the initial incident. As officers approached the individual in an effort to speak with him, he fled, initiating a foot pursuit. As officers continued the pursuit, the suspect held his waist as if he were holding a heavy object in his waistband. The suspect was met by another male at the rear entrance to 73 O’Reilly Way. The second individual slammed the door on officers in an effort to prevent them from entering the building. Officers were able to enter and the foot pursuit continued up several flights of stairs. At this time, officers observed the suspect slam a metallic object on the window sill. Officers commanded the suspect to get on the ground, to which the suspect refused. A violent struggle ensued in which the second suspect attacked officers as they attempted to place the first suspect into custody. At this time an apartment door opened and a female exited, the female began screaming at officers. The female suspect then began grabbing at the officers arms in an effort to free the suspects. Following the struggle, officers were able to place all three individuals into custody. A canvas of the area allowed officers to locate a loaded firearm with a round in the chamber.
