Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Eight Arrested and One Gun Recovered in Roslindale

At about 10:40 PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, officers on patrol in District E-5 (West Roxbury) observed a motor vehicle fail to stop at a red light then swerve across the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed in the area of Washington Street and Firth Road in Roslindale.

Officers followed the vehicle for a short distance, activated their emergency equipment (blue lights), and were able to conduct a stop of the white van in the area of 777 South Street. Officers observed several males jump out of the van and flee into an alley near 11 Tafthill Terrace. Officers pursued the males on foot onto the rooftop of a local business. The chase continued over several rooftops and through backyards until the suspects were cornered and had to stop. Officers apprehended 8 young males, and upon further investigation, found that the van was owned by Randolph Public Schools, and none of the males were authorized to drive it.

After the van was towed, officers were notified by a witness that he had found a firearm under a vehicle parked next to where the van had been stopped. Officers recovered a loaded Sierra 6 .22 caliber revolver at the scene.

Two adults, 21-year-old Johnnie Bonnie of Jamaica Plain and 21-year-old Ray Roe of Mattapan, along with 2 juveniles from Randolph and 4 juveniles from Boston, were arrested and charged for Use of a Motor Vehicle without Authority. The juvenile operator was also cited for numerous traffic violations.
