At about 10:28 PM, Wednesday, May 28, 2014, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an on-site arrest and recovered a firearm in the area of 96 Bernard Street in Dorchester.
While on patrol, officers responded to the above location for numerous calls for both shots fired and a person with a gun. On arrival, officers spoke with a victim who stated that the suspect was a light-skinned black Hispanic male wearing a red t-shirt and jeans. As officers continued their patrol, they observed an individual matching the description of the suspect. Upon seeing officers, the individual immediately became startled and attempted to flee the area, but he was stopped by officers. The suspect was positively identified. With the assistance of a K-9, officers were able to locate and recover an illegal firearm. Upon further investigation, officers were able to place another individual who violated his probation under arrest through the use of a GPS monitoring device that placed the individual at the scene of the shooting.
Officers arrested Jose Rojas, 25, of Boston and Corey Vassell, 19, of Dorchester. Rojas is charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Home Invasion, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Vassell is charged with Armed Robbery, Assault with Intent to Murder, Home Invasion, and Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.
