Community Advisory: Urban Shield Training is Active in Boston

Please be advised that Urban Shield Training is active in Boston and surrounding communities from 8:00am this morning (Saturday, May 3, 2014) through 8:00am tomorrow (Sunday, May 4, 2014). Urban Shield – a 24 hour training exercise simulating a large scale terrorist attack simultaneously targeting several locations is comprised of first responders from Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Quincy, Revere, Somerville and Winthrop. During the training, community members may hear simulated explosions or gunshots. Please be advised this is part of the exercise. The goal of the training is to test capabilities, enhance skills and instill confidence in all participating agencies. This is third year Urban Shield Training – which is funded by the Department of Homeland Security - has been held in Boston and those who’ve participated in the training in previous years say the experience and education has been invaluable.      

During the exercise, residents should take note that emergency scenarios will be held at the following locations:

  • Old Lincoln School at 194 Boylston Street in Brookline
  • MIT Building at 195 Albany Street in Cambridge
  • Boston City Hall
  • MBTA Training Center at 20 Foundry Street in Boston
  • Boston Fire Training Academy
  • Boston Convention & Exhibition Center
