At about 11:53 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force affected an on-site arrest of a person with an illegal firearm in the area of 33 Woodgate Street in District B-3 (Mattapan).
Officers on directed patrol in the area of the Morton Street Housing Development observed several groups of known street gang members lingering in the area of 33 Woodgate St. Officers established surveillance on these groups, and a short time later observed a male known to them as a member of a local street gang operating a motor vehicle that was idling in front of the above address. Officers knew that this male had been arrested for firearm possession in the past, had recently been the target of shots fired, and did not have an active driver’s license.
As officers approached the vehicle to investigate, the officers observed an open container of alcohol in the center console of the vehicle, and the rear passenger was rolling what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette. Officers ordered the operator to step out of the vehicle, and due to the individual’s history, the officers’ knowledge of the area, and for the safety of those involved, the officers conducted a pat frisk of the operator. The frisk revealed a loaded black and brown semi-automatic .380 Llama “Especial” handgun with an obliterated serial number in the individual’s right front pocket. Because the suspect did not have a License to Carry, the suspect was placed in custody without further incident.
Twenty-one-year-old Angel Calderon of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Being Licensed.
After a short altercation, officers also arrested the passenger of the motor vehicle, a 17-year-old juvenile of Mattapan, for Possession of Class C with Intent to Distribute, Disturbing the Peace, and Resisting Arrest.
